Books on the Ground

Awarded $1500

Hi, my name is Kim Terrell Boles, and I am a second grade teacher at Putnam County Primary School.

I’m so excited to share my project, Books on the Ground. This project is designed to bring students and families together in a relaxed, fun environment where reading becomes something they truly enjoy. By simply sitting outside, spreading out books, and reading together, we are creating positive, lasting experiences with literacy. The event will take place on May 2, 2026 from 9-11 a.m. and will feature guest readers including teachers, principals, community leaders, and high school students. Each family will receive a book to take home, along with simple materials that help parents learn how to read with their children and build positive reading habits.

I am especially excited about this project because it encourages a love for reading beyond the classroom. It helps students see that reading isn’t just something we do at school – it’s something we can enjoy anywhere.

My hope is that this experience will build stronger reading habits, increase student engagement, and create meaningful connections between students, families, and books.

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Putnam Education Foundation for supporting this project and investing in our students’ future. Your support truly makes a difference!
