Calming Corner
Awarded $780
I’m Abigail Hutchinson. I’m a special education teacher at PCES.
My project is called The Calming Corner. The calming corner will be a quiet, cozy area of the classroom designed to help students manage their emotions. It will include soft cushions, dim lighting, and calming colors that create a peaceful atmosphere. The space will be stocked with tools like fidget toys, emotion charts, and breathing guides. Students can use the corner whenever they feel overwhelmed or need a break, allowing them to relax, reset, and return to learning ready to focus.
I’m excited about the calming corner because it gives my students a safe place to manage their emotions and take a break when they feel overwhelmed. It helps them learn self-regulation skills while also creating a more positive and peaceful classroom environment. I love that it will show my students that their feelings matter and that I care about their wellbeing.
