Second Grade Market Day

Awarded $585

Second graders at Putnam County Primary School will soon step into the role of young entrepreneurs thanks to the Market Day project. Over the course of eight days, students will design a product, create a simple business plan, produce their goods, and ultimately sell their items in a student run marketplace.

This hands on project strengthens financial literacy and math skills while encouraging creativity, problem solving, and communication. Each student will produce 24 items—ranging from keychains and bookmarks to small crafts—and practice fair pricing, budgeting, and advertising. This culminating experience will be especially meaningful for the inclusion classroom, where students are at different levels academically but will have the same opportunity to show their creativity as well as their knowledge of goods and services with their product.
