Flexible Seating with Purpose

Awarded $1500

Thank you, Putnam Education Foundation for supporting my vision for my classroom! My name is Brandy Parham, and I teach first grade at Putnam County Primary School. I am a general education teacher in an inclusion classroom. I am incredibly grateful and beyond excited to have received funding for my project, “Flexible Seating with Purpose.”

This project is designed to create a classroom environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and engaged in their learning. Through the addition of multiple flexible seating options, my classroom will offer students purposeful choices in how and where they learn best. As our classroom model transitions from a co-teaching inclusion setting into a team-teaching model next year, this project will also help create consistency between two classroom spaces so that students can move seamlessly between learning environments with shared expectations and routines.

What excites me most about this project is the opportunity to create a space that feels welcoming and student-centered while also supporting independence, focus, and collaboration. My co-teacher and I are excited to see through a proposal to team teach first graders, and the easy flow from one classroom to the other will be continuous with the help of this project. My hope is that the impact on students will go beyond seating alone—I hope it helps them feel a stronger sense of belonging, confidence, and ownership in their learning each day.

Thank you for investing in our students and helping us create a classroom environment where they can truly thrive. It’s my hope that this grant and our classrooms have a lasting effect on our students. I cannot wait to watch this bloom!
