Pollinators and Poultry: A School Farm Learning Lab
Awarded $1000
My name is Jennifer Harper, and I teach the new Agriculture class for grades 3–5 at Putnam County Elementary School. I’m incredibly grateful to the Putnam Education Foundation for supporting our project, Pollinators and Poultry: A School Farm Learning Lab.
This project will allow students to create a garden for pollinators and hatch chickens from eggs, giving them hands-on experience with the full life cycle of living things. I’m especially excited because it lets students connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, explore nature up close, and develop responsibility and curiosity. Plus, the chickens can help the garden thrive by naturally fertilizing the soil and controlling pests, showing students how different parts of a farm ecosystem work together.
I hope this project will inspire students to be curious, care for living things, and understand how their actions can make a positive difference in the environment. Your generosity is helping us bring our classroom to life, and we are so grateful to the Putnam Education Foundation for supporting our young learners!
